Logo Design: Alberta Biodiversity Festival
In 2022, the Education Department at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo, in collaboration with Bow Habitat Station, needed a new logo to represent their annual event, newly named the Alberta Biodiversity Festival. The challenge was to create a visual identity that seamlessly connected the two organizations while effectively representing Alberta’s rich biodiversity. The logo needed to incorporate elements that symbolized conservation efforts, reflect the organizations’ shared mission, and align with the Government of Alberta’s branding. Additionally, it had to be versatile enough for use across various event materials while maintaining a strong, recognizable presence.

The logo integrates key visual elements to represent both the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo and Bow Habitat Station. A whooping crane, central to the zoo’s Species Survival Plan, and a fish, symbolizing Bow Habitat Station’s focus on aquatic ecosystems, form a unified symbol of biodiversity conservation.
The Government of Alberta’s “Sunset” color ensures brand alignment, while Avant Garde Gothic typography complements the organic curves of the design. The final logo is cohesive, versatile, and effectively communicates the festival’s mission.
